As the sister of the late Anita Murphy, it is important to address the recent developments at Bonnerworth Park. I spent many months with my sister as she found solace in this cherished green space, often observing her artistic endeavors while she gazed through the window at the vibrant scenes below. Anita found great joy in the park's natural beauty and the various activities that took place there. The park became a vital part of her life, especially as ALS progressively affected her physical abilities, ultimately leaving her unable to leave her home. The sounds of children playing baseball, the rhythmic footsteps of joggers, and the tranquility of nature significantly contributed to her sense of connection and peace.

I also found solace in Bonnerworth Park during the challenging journey associated with my sister's illness. I sought refuge in this space on numerous occasions, discovering moments of tranquility and comfort amid adversity. The park's serene environment provided a vital escape, offering an opportunity for reflection, healing, and the fortification of inner strength.

I feel a profound sadness as I witness the destruction of Bonnerworth Park, a decision that truly affects so many in this community. The shift from this cherished public space to pickleball courts and parking areas, in the name of exclusivity, seems to overlook the importance of inclusivity and the well-being of the community. The loss of this green space is not just a physical change; it feels like a disservice to my sister's memory and to everyone who has found joy, comfort, and mental solace in its embrace.

Anita passionately fought for the preservation of this park, deeply understanding its vital role in nurturing community spirit and supporting mental health. To her, the park was more than just a recreational space; it was a cherished sanctuary where people from all backgrounds could come together, share moments of happiness, and find peace in nature. The decision to replace it with pickleball courts not only undermines these important values but also diminishes the sense of community that Anita so lovingly championed. In her memory and for the well-being of the community, I humbly urge you to reconsider the current plans. Let’s explore alternatives that honor the true spirit of Bonnerworth Park. Together, we can ensure that this space remains a source of joy, connection, and tranquility for generations to come, honoring all those who have cherished it.
